Chapter 20
Thee collapse at the center: world war, depression, and the Rebalancing of Global power. All of this took place from 1914 through the 1970s. The first paragraph talks about a vet that died in world war one. then goes on to talk about the great war, ww1, great depression, ww2 and Nazi take over. during those three decades, western Europe went through a lot. Well, the whole world went through a lot. Europe was used to be on top during the colonial period but when other decades started up that was not the case as much.

the next section begins with World War One and the European civilization crisis. (1914-1918). the early 20th century the balance of power was expressed in two rival alliances, the Triple Alliance of Germany, Italy, Austro-Hungarian Empire, AND the Triple Entente which was Russia, France, and Britain. (there is a good timeline to check out on page 883). These two teams went at it.

Then it goes into the Great Depression. The 19th century. People were poor, had no jobs, no food, and could not afford to live pretty much. The American stock market crashed. Was not a good time for the US. President Roosevelt came up with the "New Deal" in 1933-1942 and brought back up the US`s standard of living.

Moving on to Democracy denied when comparing Italy, Germany, and Japan. Then to the Fascist in Europe between 1919 through 1945. A new way to look at political ideology.  People who would represent Facsim would be Benito Mussolini of Italy and Adolf Hitler of Germany. Both dangerous men who looked to Karl Marx for ideas to run their nations. Hitler and his Nazi`s took over Germany, then attempted to take over the rest of Europe. Went after the Jews (the Holocaust) and then went world war two. going hand in hand with Japan who started world war two with the attacking of Pearl Harbor in the US. The US, later on, bombed Hiroshima and Nagasaki which caused, as explained on page 910, the global conflict and the outcomes of the bombings. All accrued around 1937-1945.
It was hard for Europe to get back on their feet after all of this.
